The Research Ethics Committee of FAPPZ, CZU (the "Committee") is established by Dean's Ordinance No. 07/2026.
The Committee is an independent advisory and supervisory body of the Dean of FAPPZ, CZU and its purpose is to ensure that research conducted under the auspices of FAPPZ, CZU, complies with national and international ethical standards of research and creative activities, such as the European Charter for Researchers, the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, and the Nagoya Protocol, and is in accordance with the applicable legislation of the Czech Republic and the European Union, as well as the internal regulations of FAPPZ and CZU. The main objective of the Committee is to ensure compliance with the ethical aspects of research conducted as part of the creative activities of FAPPZ, CZU employees and students.
The need for an assessment of ethical aspects (most often for scientific publications or grant application) of the proposed research by the Commission is decided by an employee of the FAPPZ, ČZU, responsible for the given research, e.g. the project proposer or the supervisor of the qualification thesis.

The applicant is obliged to submit the application for research assessment by the Committee using the Application form via email to ethics@af.czu.cz in sufficient time before the planned research begins, at least 30 calendar days in advance. If the external provider to whom the project proposal is submitted requires an ethical assessment on its own form, the applicant shall use this and simultaneously supplement the form used by the FAPPZ with all data not contained in the external provider's form. The Committee shall review the submitted applications during its meetings or per rollam, see the rules of procedure, and will prepare a written opinion.

The Committee is not responsible for:
- assessment of aspects of research relating to the welfare of experimental animals in relation to the acquisition and housing of experimental animals, their care and use or the regimes for housing experimental animals in companion animals, including appropriate socialization of experimental animals to be housed in companion animals, etc. This issue is addressed by Expert Committee for Ensuring the Welfare of Experimental Animals.
- issuing an opinion in the case of larger research projects that go beyond the scope of a regular anonymous questionnaire survey. In such cases, it is necessary to contact an ethics committee authorized to assess the given type of research. This may include, for example, projects involving the direct participation of patients or other persons, interference with their regular regimen, work with medical documentation or biological material, or the performance of clinical and diagnostic procedures.
FAPPZ CZU has long-term cooperation with the Ethics Committee of the Motol and Homolka University Hospital, which, in addition to clinical trials, also assesses other research projects.

The documents and forms required to prepare a request for an opinion from the ethics committee are available on the website of the Ethics Committee of the Motol and Homolka University Hospital. When submitting an application, the contracting authority is the FAPPZ ČZU and the applicant is an employee or student of the FAPPZ ČZU. The assessment of a research project implemented as part of academic activities is free of charge. - assessing the legal aspects or legal consequences arising from research proposals, or from the actions of applicants, other researchers, or research participants. The Committee shall not bear any responsibility for actions or legal consequences arising during the implementation of approved research.
