Visit of Her Majesty The Queen Ratu Hemas of Yogyakarta and Indonesian Senators

A delegation of 18 senators representing the various Indonesian provinces, led by Dr. H. Bustami Zainudin, S.Pd., M.H. from Lampung, visited the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague on Monday, March 20. The delegation included Queen Hemas, who is the wife of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, the only current autonomous monarchy within the Republic of Indonesia.

The delegation was welcomed by representatives of the Faculty, namely the Dean Prof. Josef Soukup, Vice-Deans Prof. Lukáš Kalous and Prof. Lenka Kouřimská, and Assoc. Prof. Jiří Patoka and Dr. Miloslav Petrtýl from FAPPZ. Furthermore, also representatives of the Faculty of Tropical Agriculture Dr. Petra Chaloupková and Dr. Jana Hummelová participated. After the formal introduction and the bilateral presentation of gifts and souvenirs, the currently running fruitful cooperation of Assoc. Prof. Patoka and his PhD student Surya Gentha Akmal with Indonesian universities (mainly Institut Pertanian Bogor, Terbuka University, and General Sodeirman University) was presented. Afterwards, Dr. Chaloupková introduced the ČZU as a university open to foreign students and talked about the various study programmes. This was followed by an expert debate on the planned improvement in Indonesian legislation, which was the main point of the event. Representatives of the Department of Zoology and Fisheries answered questions about fisheries management in the Czech Republic and, concerning the specifics of Indonesia, recommended taking into account selected measures based on their research activities.

The discussion was in a very friendly spirit and the senators expressed their willingness for follow-up discussions - preferably in Indonesia. As this is a unique opportunity to participate in the preparation of legislation improvement, including emphasizing aspects of nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, this offer aroused a lot of interest from the faculty. The first to take up the offered opportunity is Assoc. Prof. Patoka, who will visit Sumatra, Java, and other Indonesian islands this summer in July/August. These activities are also supported by the Indonesian Embassy in Prague, namely by Ambassador Kenssy Dwi Ekaningsih.
